Adaptive Skills

Description

Adaptive skills are carefully honed skills that you refine through use. Even if you fail the check, you gain some small reward as a sort of consolation prize.

Setup

Players construct a table that looks like the following:

Usage

As opposed to ordinary skill checks, an adaptive skill check grants number of rolls. In order to pass the skill check, the player must gain a number of successes predetermined by the DM.

  1. The DM decides on the required number of successes for the task.
  2. The player rolls a d20 and gains a number of successes equal to the value in the cell corresponding to the die value.
  3. Following the roll, the player increments the number in the corresponding cell.

Example

Lyrandyr has a Forging Skill that looks like

When Lyrandyr rolls to charge a weapon, he rolls 1d20.

Lyrandyr Roll: 1d20 = 10.

Lyrandyr gains 1 success due to:
